The Lake of Fire

And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.

Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:13-15.

This passage has always amazed me. Those who did not know the Lord and are lost at sea are not forgotten. The sea will one day toss them up. Death and Hades (the grave) give up those who are dead and are in them. All of these have already been judged. They have been judged according to their deeds. It appears that it doesn’t differentiate between good or bad deeds. It only says they are judged according to them. After that even death and the grave are thrown into the lake of fire. We know this involves people for it then says that if ANYONE’S name is not found in the Book of Life, they are thrown into the lake of fire. The end result for death, Hades and those in them is the lake of fire. I’ve heard some try to minimize this by suggesting that it is not literal. I believe it is, yet even if it is not the results are dramatic and dreadful. Not only those who are dead but also death and the grave (Hades) are thrown into the lake.

This must be why the Lord can say in Rev. 21:4 these words;

and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.

Tears, mourning, crying, and pain are almost always associated with death. But there is no longer any death, for death has been cast into the lake of fire.

Dear Lord Jesus, I am so grateful that I will not be in the group that is one day cast into the Lake of Fire. I’m so thankful that all of my deeds good or bad have already been judged at the Cross. More than that, I’m eternally grateful that the price of death which my judgment brought me has been paid in full by YOU Lord Jesus and that one day there will no longer by ANY death, for I have already passed from death into LIFE. Amen.

I am in a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you?
