Bible Verses about Faith in Hebrews:
11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
2: For by it (faith) the men of old gained approval,
5: By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; and He was not found because God took him up: for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God.
6: And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God, must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
These verses tell me that God blesses Faith in Him. In the first verse it tells us that Faith is assurance. We are sure that we get the things that we hope for. We have a conviction of things we cannot see. That they are true and that they are there even though we cannot see them.
It is this kind of faith that gave men in the Old Testament their approval before God.
That kind of faith gave witness about Enoch that he was pleasing to God and by so doing received the reward of not seeing death. Enoch must have knew the promises of God about things he could not see. He must have been sure of it and had a conviction about God’s promises. He must have known about something God had told him and even not seeing them He believed he would get them.
We know this from verse 6 that without this kind of faith in the Word of God that it is impossible to please God.
Faith is to know there is a God. Faith is being so assured of it that you will come to Him. Faith is knowing that God will reward when you do come to Him. That is the faith that pleases God. That is all that He asks of us.
Makes sense doesn’t it? One will only come to someone who they believe and trust. One will only ask something of someone who they believe will deliever what they have promised.
Of course, lack of faith will not please God! Why would it? You will not come to God because you are not assured that He is. Why go to someone whom you don’t believe exists? Why would you go to someone whom you don’t believe will reward you for your request? Why ask someone you don’t believe exists to give you something you don’t believe is true? Even though they told you it is. Isn’t that calling them a liar? Surely one can see why God is not pleased by lack of faith. It would be like telling God that He doesn’t exist and that He is a liar! And some people say that God is unjust. Why would He reward you with something you don’t believe is there, coming from someone you don’t believe exists?
Faith receives from God things that we believe exists, from a God whom we know exists. This is the faith that pleases God.
